Storage
Moving often means a gap between closing dates, a renovation delay, or a downsizing pause. Mover-run storage keeps your belongings in crated vaults or warehouse bays between move-out and move-in - usually cheaper and more coordinated than a self-storage unit plus a second move.
Typical Costs
Crated vault storage runs $100-$400 per vault per month. Warehouse storage by square footage is $1-$3 per sq ft per month. Climate-controlled storage costs 20-40% more. Storage-in-transit (SIT) for interstate moves is capped at 90 days before it converts to permanent storage.
Crated vs Warehouse
Crated vaults (about 250 cubic feet each) are sealed wooden containers stored stacked in a warehouse. Best for household goods in transit. Open warehouse storage is cheaper but less secure and more prone to dust and damage without padding.
Questions to Ask
How many times will my items be handled? What is the insurance coverage while in storage? Is the warehouse climate-controlled? What is the monthly rate after SIT converts to permanent? How much notice is needed for out-delivery?
